There’s no denying that Sheffield is a very student friendly city. It has been voted the Greenest City, as well as being in the top 10 most affordable university cities in the U.K. The student cost of living crisis is impacting student communities up and down the country. As cost of living in Sheffield is generally less expensive than other U.K major cities, you can expect to pay less for a pint up north. Here are our top 3 reasons why Sheffield is a great city for University students.

A safe and diverse city

  • Sheffield boasts a large international student community, attracting students from over 150 countries around the world. You’re never short of people to meet and cultures to explore! There are lots of international shops, cultural centres and places of worship. With the Steel City’s warm and welcoming community, it won’t take you long to feel right at home. If you have moved U.K, it doesn’t mean you have to abandon your national identity, Sheffield boasts a wide array of international cuisines with food from all around the world from restaurants, to food markets and more.

Vibrant social scene

  • As a main cultural hub, you’ll find art galleries, theatres and cinemas in the heart of Sheffield. For you guys that like a bit of retail therapy, Meadowhall is a massive indoor shopping complex where you can shop the latest high street trends and grab a bite to eat in the Oasis food court. Sheffield also boasts many quirky independent retailers, as well as live music venues if you want a chilled night with drinks and vibes.

Sporting culture

  • There are lots of sporting teams and societies like Football, Netball and Swimming to join when living in Sheffield. If you would rather watch sport than take part, Varsity is one of the biggest events in the University calendar where all students can spectate and compete in sporting games. You can learn about different sports and also sign up for being part of sporting societies, which is a great way to develop your interpersonal skills and build your confidence. Our Sheffield student accommodation, The Pinnacles is also a 5 minute walk to Ponds Forge, a large sport and leisure centre in the heart of the city centre.
