Home to over 23,000 students, Wolverhampton is the perfect place to start your University experience. It is popular with both U.K and international students, so you’re never short of people to meet and opportunities. Here are some of reasons why the West Midlands city is a great place for kick starting your student experience.

Affordability

Wolverhampton gives that vibrant, urban feel with it being a city, as well as affordable living costs for students. The average cost of student accommodation in Wolverhampton is from £100 per week. At DIGS, all bills are included in your weekly rent, so you don’t have to worry about any rising energy costs. As a student, you will also have access to a National Union for Students (NUS) discount card, as well as hundreds of offers with UniDays. Therefore, you can save and spend knowing you’re getting a nice discount as a student.

Our Wolverhampton student accommodation, Chambers 51 offers spacious ensuite studios and flat shared living for students studying at Wolverhampton University. We are just a short 5 minute walk to campus at the heart of the city centre, so there’s no paying for public transport to and from campus. Our location is great for convenience with easy access to uni and the rest of Wolves.

Social and leisure

There are plenty of bars, clubs and entertainment venues in Wolverhampton. All the big names like Pop World and Slug and Lettuce reside in the city centre, perfect for society socials and student nights! Good food is the way to many of our hearts, Wetherspoons is cheap and cheerful, you can get a hearty full English breakfast and a refillable hot drink for under £8 which is great for some pre-lecture fuel. Many students will congregate in Spoons at the beginning of a night out for the infamous pitchers.

The city centre is home to lots of retail therapy with major high-street brands. The Wulfrun and Mander shopping centres are super convenient for grabbing all your essentials. If you’re looking for other activities with your uni mates, head to the Cineworld to watch all the new film releases or soak up some culture at the New Art Gallery for a casual wander.

Sporting activities

If you’re a student into your sport and fitness, there’s no better place than Wolverhampton! The city is home to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, the Premier League football club.  You can also use the gym on campus and our free gym at Chambers 51 if you’re a student living with us. There are many student sport and social societies you can get involved in, with mainstream sports like rugby, hockey and football, as well as your more niche sports like archery and judo.

Joining a sports society at Wolverhampton is a great way to have a hobby outside of your studies and for widening your social circle. You will bond over shared interests with students from all walks of life, seeking out people with similar skills and passions. Some of your most cherished memories will be from society events and socials!
