student safety

Whether you’re soon to begin life as a Fresher or you’re about to start your next year at university, we can’t wait to welcome you. But you may be wondering how your student accommodation has adapted to the ‘new normal’? What safety measures have been put in place as a result of the pandemic.

You can be reassured to hear that DIGS sites in Huddersfield and Sheffield have made a comprehensive range of changes, to keep students and staff as safe as possible.

Face Coverings

Every student that lives with us in 2020/21 will receive a DIGS branded face covering.

Hand Sanitizer Stations

In all our high traffic areas, hand sanitiser stations have been installed for everyone to use as they enter and leave different areas of the buildings.

Enhanced Cleaning

We have also implemented higher levels and more regular cleaning of all social communal areas, for your peace of mind.

Social Distancing Signage

To ensure we all keep the required distance, you will spot social distancing signage and movement flow signage around our buildings. You may come across one-way systems that haven’t been there before, so please watch out for these.

Protective Screens

As our staff deal with many people face to face every day, we have installed protective screens in reception and office areas.

Virtual & Physical Events

Where we are able to run events as we have done before, with suitable social distancing in place, we are doing so. We have also introduced a range of new and exciting outdoor or virtual events! So please check out our events listings next month and book yourself on.

Phased Check-in Appointments

As you can imagine, the start of term is extremely busy and so we have had to make changes to keep you safe. The main difference will be the staggered appointments to ensure that social distancing is in place. Please keep an eye on your emails for more details and ensure you arrive on time for your pre-booked appointment (Storthes Hall Park and The Pinnacles only due to site capacity).

Cash Free Payments

At the Storthes Hall Park shop and The Venue in Huddersfield, we have gone cashless. This is not only more hygienic, but also a much simpler way for everyone to pay for food, drinks and more.

Controlled Numbers in Social Spaces

We know you love to get together with friends and relax, but for now we have put limits on the number of people who can gather in our social spaces. This may mean that you have to change your plans occasionally. But please bear with us if areas have reached their maximum capacity.

Wellbeing Support

Change is a big part of the new normal. But for some people, it might create anxieties that are difficult to cope with. We have wellbeing support available so you can talk to someone if you’re worried. Look out for signposting around the building pointing you in the direction of this support.

So, we hope that these changes give you peace of mind that although life at your DIGS accommodation may look and feel a little different this term. But don’t worry we have everything covered to make sure you’re safe and still have a great experience.
