It’s time for your guide for Huddersfield to make your summer here the best ever. If you’re staying with us at Storthes Hall Park over the summer, you may be thinking about things to do. The usual events might not be happening but don’t worry – there are still lots of options out there for you. We’ve put some ideas together to inspire you – for daytime and evenings. Why not take a look?

The Ultimate Guide to Huddersfield

Centros

Huddersfield’s best-loved Italian takeaway is a must-visit for students. The great value menu means it doesn’t have to be saved for a special treat – and they sell the best cheesy chips with garlic and chilli in town! Hungry? Take a look at their menu now…

Marston’s Chicken Shop

If lockdown has left you dreaming about your favourite treats, the good news is that Marston’s is open for your legendary fried chicken fix. A Huddersfield landmark since 1985, you can choose online from their menu, before calling in to collect.

Greenhead Park

If the sun’s out and you fancy a picnic, Greenhead Park is a great place to head. Just a short distance from the town centre, it’s open until 10pm through the summer months, so you can even enjoy a relaxing evening after a busy day studying. Check out the website for news on events later in the summer.

Castle Hill

If you want to stretch your legs, we recommend a walk up Castle Hill to Victoria Tower. The view from the top will not disappoint – especially if you’re there at sunset – and you can immerse yourself in the history of this ancient monument, while you’re up there. Hop on a bus from the town centre to get there. Alternatively, you can join us on our annual charity walk for Children in Need.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

About a 20 minute drive from Storthes Hall Park, this stunning open air gallery will easily fill a whole day. You can take in acclaimed works by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, not to mention a stream of temporary exhibitions dotted around the 500-acre grounds, plus wander around galleries, visit the restaurant and even browse the shop. It’s free to get in – with a small charge for parking which supports its charitable work.

Felix the Station Cat

Felix is Huddersfield Railways Station’s resident cat and ‘senior pest controller’. The star of a best-selling book, along with his side kick Bolt, he also has his own Facebook page and has become one of Huddersfield’s most visited attractions. See if you can spot him!

Odeon Huddersfield

If the weather isn’t playing ball, a trip to the cinema is a great way to relax and be entertained. Just a short 10-minute walk from the University, the Odeon has nine screens so you’re sure to be able to find a film that takes your fancy. Check out the latest releases and show times on their website.

The Venue, Storthes Hall Park

If you really don’t want to go too far, The Venue right here at Storthes Hall Park has absolutely everything you need. With tasty student friendly menus, a bar with BT Sports, gaming rooms, table tennis, pool tables and a comfortable cinema room, you can meet up with friends or chill out on your own, in style.
